Terms of service

1. What CleanGig is
CleanGig operates an online marketplace that connects people who need cleaning services with independent cleaning contractors in South Australia. CleanGig is not a cleaning company and does not employ cleaners. Cleaners set their own prices, choose their own jobs and supply their own equipment.
2. Accounts
You must be at least 18 years old and provide accurate information. Cleaners must hold a current Australian Business Number, a National Police Certificate issued within the last 12 months, and public liability insurance of at least A$5 million. CleanGig verifies these documents before a cleaner may accept work, and may suspend an account whose documents lapse.
3. Payments
Clients pay through the platform when they accept a cleaner's offer. CleanGig holds the payment and releases it to the cleaner after the job is marked complete. CleanGig charges the client a service fee of A$5 on each of their first three bookings and A$7 on each booking after that, and deducts a 10% commission from the cleaner's payment, waived for the cleaner's first three completed jobs. CleanGig is not registered for GST and does not add GST to its fees.
4. Cancellations
A client who cancels more than 24 hours before the scheduled start receives a full refund, including the service fee. The same applies at any time if no cleaner has been assigned, or if the assigned cleaner does not attend.
A client who cancels within 24 hours of the scheduled start receives a refund of 50% of the amount paid. The remainder is paid 45% to the cleaner, as compensation for the reserved time, and 5% is retained by CleanGig.
5. Off-platform payments are prohibited
5.1. All payments between a client and a cleaner must be processed through the CleanGig platform, except where CleanGig has given written authorisation.
5.2. A cleaner must not:
- (a) request, accept or receive payment directly from a client, whether in cash, by bank transfer, by card or by any other means;
- (b) offer a client a discount in exchange for paying outside the platform;
- (c) perform additional services without recording them on CleanGig;
- (d) request tips or additional amounts outside the platform.
5.3. Optional extras — such as carpet steam cleaning, oven or refrigerator cleaning — may only be arranged through the platform's Optional Extras feature. Work carried out off-platform is not covered by insurance, has no payment protection, and cannot be reviewed.
5.4. If this clause is breached, CleanGig may:
- (a) immediately suspend the account;
- (b) permanently remove the user from the platform;
- (c) withhold amounts pending payment;
- (d) seek compensation for loss caused to the platform;
- (e) report the matter to a regulator where applicable.
5.5. A client who encourages, requests or agrees to pay outside the platform is also subject to suspension.
6. Equipment and cleaning products
Unless agreed otherwise before the booking, the cleaner supplies their own equipment and standard cleaning products, and the cost is included in the price they quote.
A client who requires specific products — a particular brand, an eco-certified range, or products for an allergy — must supply them, or book a cleaner who lists that as part of their package.
Cleaners are responsible for using products appropriately for the surface and in line with the manufacturer's instructions, and for keeping Safety Data Sheets for the hazardous chemicals they use.
7. Communication
Messages between clients and cleaners must stay within CleanGig. Sharing phone numbers, email addresses, messaging app handles or external links in chat is blocked. Repeated attempts result in a formal warning and then suspension.
8. Reviews
Clients and cleaners may each leave one review per completed job. Reviews are only possible for jobs booked and paid through CleanGig.
9. Liability
Cleaners are responsible for the work they perform and must hold their own public liability insurance. CleanGig's responsibility is limited to operating the platform and handling payments as described in these terms.
